TREETOPS

ELIGIBILITY: Anyone who is a member of WHC is eligible to submit haiku.

Send TREETOPS submissions in a single e-mail to Ferris Gilli
hgilli@cfl.rr.com

SUBJECT FIELD OF EMAIL: "SUBMISSIONS FOR TREETOPS"

Guidelines for Submissions:

Submit up to 10 original, unpublished haiku (haiku that have not previously
appeared in print journals or in on-line journals by editorial
selection).Poems that have appeared on Internet mailing lists such as
WHChaikuforum, WHCschools, and WHCbeginners, but have not otherwise been
published, are eligible.

The column will feature an Editor's Choice section, including a brief
kansho. On some occasions, a guest editor will be invited to choose haiku for
Treetops. Selections are made on merit.

Essential elements of haiku:

Concrete imagery
Focus
Conciseness (clarity, brevity)
Effective juxtaposition
Caesura
Immediacy
Natural syntax
Common language
Balance of humanity and nature
Sense of mood
Sense of season

Freshness of content is desirable. Poets should avoid stale, hackneyed
presentations of overused subjects. NOTE: This does NOT mean that
familiarsubjects and topics are unwelcome. It simply means that whatever the
topic, the haiku
should present a fresh, different view of a subject or event, and/or offer
new insight

Send TREETOPS submissions in a single e-mail to Ferris Gilli:

Re: Notice from Serge Tome <serge.tome@wanadoo.be>

Serge has created a new site to accommodate works on the theme of wars. The
following is his message for those members who are interested.

+++++++

We are opening a site about haiku, tanka, haibun writing but also essays
and articles about past wars (from WWI to present and future wars)

http://web.wanadoo.be/awhw/home.html

We would like to build a reference site.

We also have a protest zone and a walls zone.

It is a cooperative and international project.
