ROMANIA THE TZIGANE WAY
RIDING ROMANIA'S ORIENTAL CARPATHIANS
RIDING THE TUNISIAN KROUMIRIE

le CORRIDOR VERT ON HORSEBACK ALONG HUNGARY'S GREEN CORRIDOR

In the heart of Somogy province, the green corridor stretches from Lake Balaton to the North to the Drava River on the Croatian border to the South. This region of watercourses, ponds & forests is also the home of some of the rarest animal species in Europe such as the Otter, the Ferruginous Duck (Fuligule nyroca), the Black Stork (Ciconia nigra) or the White-tailed Eagle (Haliaetus albicilla).
For a week, 5 to 8 experienced riders have the opportunity to explore, from North to South, this remote area, owned & managed by our partner, the Somogy Nature Conservancy. Two non-riding companions are also welcomed: they will travel on a horse-drawn carriage that follows the riders.

Located in the famous Transylvania Mountains (also called the Transylvania Alps), the Apuseni country has a spectacular & wild nature, where hamlets and their small cabins are completely isolated in the mountains. The ride goes across this quiet & welcoming land, through forests & pastures perched at an attitude ranging from 1600 to 1800 meters (i.e. 5,300 to 6,000 feet). The Apuseni are a natural fort difficult to pass, even now! Over the centuries, numerous Romanian people escaped from the wars & found here a shelter where their native language & civilization remain untouched. These mountains are covered with forests, home of bears, wolves, elk, foxes & boars, as well as with plenty of beneficial medicinal herbs. An enchanted garden you will discover from horseback! .
