First attack by kamikaze, in Leyte Gulf

Start: Wednesday October 25, 1944

Click with the mouse to have an enlargementFirst attack by the kamikaze (Japanese suicide plane) against allied ships. It took place in the Gulf of Leyte, a couple of hours after that battle off Samar had been fought and against the very same ships, that had took part in it. The results are spectacular, since five carriers are sunk or damaged. This new way of waging war would be used by the Japanese until the end of the conflict
