"Bull's Run" to the San Bernardino Strait (Leyte)

While he was leading the attack against Ozawa's carriers off Cape Engano in the North of the Philippines, the US admiral Halsey heard about Kurita's dash across the San Bernardino strait and the battle off Samar. He formed in a hurry a Task Group that he sent to the South. Later in the afternoon, that group was split and a fast battleship force was handed over to Badger with the mission to destroy the Japanese force in the San Bernardino Strait. He arrived too late to intercept Kurita who was in full retreat. Only one lagging destroyer fell victim of the powerful US guns.
