Click with the mouse to have an enlargementForced to detach part of his forces to the south at the news of Kurita's break out at Samar, Halsey went on destroying Ozawa's ships near the Cape Engano until sunset. Having relinquished all his battleships to the group sprinting to the south, he could only sent a task force of cruisers to finish up the Japanese ships left cripple by the planes off Engano. During a night fight Du Bose accomplished his mission and escaped, unknowingly, to the Japanese battleships that Ozawa had sent against him when he had heard of the US incursion.

Webmaster's question(s) and remark(s): There is a contradiction in my sources in the number of destroyers in the Du Bose's Group (nine) and the listing of them (giving ten). I was unable to solve the contradiction.
