American naval counter-attack after the Japanese landing at Balikpapan (see). During the night combat, the Americans win the first surface engagement at gunpoint since the start of the Pacific War (and their first since the war againt Spain in 1898 !).

Webmaster's question(s) and remark(s): Not too sure for the "Asahi Maru". What is the name of the 4 nameless transports ? The credit for sinking some of the transport is debatable (e.g. the "Jukka Maru"): is it to the Dutch bombers or the American destroyers ?
