The unthinkable doctorate

This colloquium is intended to bring academics and practitioners together around the question of doctoral research for architects who practice. The Academy and the Profession are both indispensable to the discipline, but they are not often at odds with each other. This translates, among other problems, into a schism in doctoral research between the narroowly "professional", on one hand, and the entirely "academic" on the other.

In the meantime, doctorates that think throught and reflect upon -by whatever graphic or linguistic means- architecture qua architecture in its various fields of operation, its putative essence or existence, its order, its structure, its ethics are much too rare. We think that this situation can and should change.
