Monograph of La Louvière After reading of this statement, maybe and I hope for, you will be tried to leave in the discovery of one or the other site louvièrois, of one or the other church, the jewel of the regional patrimony, or better still, all to visit them to compare and to judge so the indescribable wealth as offer these hamlets which(who), put together, contributed to the development of a region known in all the country and even in the world. Entity louvièroise known worldwide? But obviously; by her twinnings, by her industrial exports, by her children exiled in Europe, in the United States as Pol Bury or in Africa as Jules Cornet, " Big La Louvière " acquired a world fame. Naturally, I do not claim to have studied all the miracles in which abounds entity, it would be almost impossible unless dedicate to it long months, even even years; nevertheless it is the long-term job that I began. I admit that, sometimes, when documents did not follow or what I spent long moments to dislodge the small detail which prevented me from advancing, I regretted not to have chosen a subject easier to encircle; but ease does not bring anything. This work learnt me better to know my region, better to understand my roots and especially, and I think that it is one of the most important things, to realize me, that there are so beauties to be seen at home, that he is stupid to run in hundred kilometres while being unaware of the patrimony which is in our doors. To facilitate understanding, I divided every study of village in the following way: first of all, historic one general of the village; then, a possible armorial of the place (certain villages lack it as Maurage or Besonrieux); then comes a study of monuments and curiosities of the place and to end, I envisaged the biographies of the most striking persons, natives of the studied village. I shall end this introduction by some towards the surrealist poet André Lorent, friend of Achille Chavée:
Between Mons and Charleroi There are small houses A lot, many of the small houses With so many small gardens And of accordions... The studied villages are distributed by beginning by: Common La Louviere, city and centre of the entity; comes then: Saint-Vaast, cradle of the aforesaid city; Trivières, Houdeng-Aimeries, Houdeng-Goegnies, Strèpy-Bracquegnies, Maurage, Boussoit, Haine-Saint-Pierre, Haine-Saint-Paul, Besonrieux |
