Panzer III mod. G
Type: Medium tank
Some minor improvements compared with the model H were brought on this version. The 5 cm gun is now mounted at the factory (with an exception for the first 50 units, which received the old 3.7 cm gun because of a penury of 5 cm guns).
Those tanks fought for the first time in the Balkans and in North Africa. The last units left the frontline three years later in September 1944.
Identification: The 5 cm gun is much longer than the 3.7 cm gun of the previous versions. It is mounted on an external gun shield. The "Rommelkiste", a stowage compartment at the rear of the turret, appeared first on this model before becoming common on all models afterwards. The cupola is modified to meet the standard of the Panzer IV.
