Panzer III mod. N
Type: Medium tank
The Panzer III model N is a J, L or M version where the 5 cm antitank gun is replaced by a short 7.5 cm gun, the same antipersonnel weapon that the Panzer IV had at the start of the war. After five years, the Panzer III and IV had thus exchanged their role.
The Panzer III mod. N served among others in the Tiger battailons, providing them with antipersonnel fire. Panzer III remained operational until the end of the war in some calm sectors of Europe until the end of the war (Norway, the Netherlands). They had disappeared from the Eastern Front by the end of 1944.
Identification: A short 7.5 cm gun replaced the longer 5 cm gun of the previous models. There is no spaced armor like on the previous models. The silhouette is not to be confused with the one of an early model of a Panzer IV. The Panzer III mod. N had six road-wheels vs. eight for the Panzer IV.
