Version francophone
USA Sherman (Introduction) USA

Type: Medium tankNationality: USA
*With almost 50 000 units produced, the Sherman is the tank with the highest production figure of World War II, ahead of the
T-34 (40 000 units). Technically, it is less successful than its Russian counterpart and it remained at a disadvantage facing the German Panzers for almost the whole of its career.
It served with all the armies that were allied to the US, the Russians included (via Lend & Lease). It career continued after the war, among other in the Middle East where it equipped both sides during the first Arab-Israëli wars.
Identification:
To find one's way among the various versions of the Sherman is a real mess. The most obvious visual criteria (bolted components in front of the hull, the central position of the return roller above the bogies, suspension with volute springs, mudguard, ...) mean nothing. They were used on all versions of the Sherman for some of the produced units.
To make the matters worse, the same tank can receive different designation if it is used by the British or the Americans. Outside the main types, a whole array of variations were developped for special usages by the British as well as by the Americans.
Production: 48 071 units

USA Sherman 105 USA

Type: Medium tankNationality: USA
Trials started in 1942 to rearm the Sherman with a short 10.5 cm howitzer. Insufficient as an antitank weapon, it reinforced the antipersonnel capabilities of the Sherman.
They were built on the hulls of
M4 and of M4A3 (respectively "Sherman I B" and "Sherman IV B" according to the British designations, with the "B" denoting a tank rearmed with a 105 mm gun).
Identification:
The larger diameter of the gun differentiate this version and the other versions of the Sherman.
Production: 4 650 units
