Mortification used to be a Death Metal/Grin core band but would now be classed as an Extreme Metal/Thrash band. Death Metal simply describes a certain style of Metal sound. 

Mortification evolved from classic metal band Lightforce which recorded 2 albums in the late '80's. When the Lightforce lineup of 1989 split up, main man Steve Rowe decided to take the band in a heavier, more thrash oriented direction. The name Mortification was chosen to better suit the new sound and direction. The albums "Break The Curse 1990" and "Mortification" were mainly influenced by old style thrash and the beginning of grindcore. In 1992, they took a bigger swing towards death metal and grindcore by recording "Scrolls Of The Megilloth". Other releases include 1996's "EnVision EvAngeline", "Live Without Fear" (EP), "Noah Sat Down...", "Triumph of Mercy" and the soon-to-be-released "Hammer of God", due out summer of 1999.

Mortification is taken from the King James Bible where in the New Testament they use the word Mortify in reference to dying to self, the lusts of the flesh and also in reference to serving others. The "Scrolls of the Megilloth" are 5 Old Testament books, Esther, Ecclesiastes. Song of Soloman, Ruth & Lamentations. They were grouped and called this because they were read at Jewish feasts. I studied Old Testament survey while at Theological college in the early 90's around the time we recorded Scrolls. 100's probably 1000's of people have been saved through the Mortification ministry both through CDs & concerts.

I (Steve Rowe) have a certificate of ministry's from the Assembly's of God church & am an official missionary from Harvest Christian Life Center Melbourne Australia to the world's Extreme Metal scene. Lincoln & Keith are both members of Full Gospel churches. We are Evangelists first, musicians second.

Rowe Productions & Mortification exist for the soles purposes of evangelism of the Gospel of Jesus Christ & to give Christians who like Extreme Metal styles some edifying music to listen to. Rowe Productions also gives Extreme Christian Metal bands the opportunity to express their art & beliefs around the globe which would be impossible without the Rowe Productions vehicle.
